Humanitarian Respite Center
based at Sacred Heart

The Respite Center has been embraced by global individuals and faith communities for the dignity-affirming work, partnership skills, and operational success. The humanitarian efforts demonstrate a genuine human approach to the issue of humanitarian immigration and relief which sometimes is confused with illegal immigration controversies.

43,000 “anything” is a big number. When that number represents actual people fleeing for their very lives, it can create surprise, questions, assumptions and misunderstandings. Sister Norma Pimentel is the Executive Director for The Respite Center currently located at Sacred Heart Church. She is well known in government circles for her serene manner in the care of refugee families arriving into the Rio Grande Valley. A new respite warehouse center will begin its mission nearby the church in January of 2017.
